Nano technology is a relatively new concept to us. As Dr. Gimzewski describes in the lecture, the recent advance research in nanotechnology shows its potential to change the world in terms of both social and economic values.   To be honest, its mechanism is very hard for me to understand as a north campus major. However, I do find its close relationship between arts. Some samples of Blue Morphos which are an species first discovered in South America. In the lecture, Dr. Gimzewski mentions that at the nano scale, our traditional physical mechanics does not exist. Instead, there exists the quantum mechanics which means a lot of properties change. For example, at nano scale when we see different colors, we might think that its because of there different materials or molecular structure. Things l learned from Tuesday’s final review session include: The blog summary is due on Jun 9th. It should include all the blog entries so far WITH pictures and sources. A summary of 300-500 words should be included as well. the summary should not be an overview but a summary of the synthesis with specific details. The final essay should be an expansion of one of the 9 topics we have covered in lectures. We are expect to connect a scientific innovation to an artist who works with the same subject and explain how that technology drives both art and science. The format and guidelines of bibliography and reference. The difference of those two is that reference should be in the same order as how I directly or indirectly quote the idea of another author, while the bibliography includes all the sources that support my ideas. This week the professor introduces many perspectives to connect Neuroscience with Art which I have never thought of before. I got to learn many new and interesting ideas such as how consciousness defines how we perceive and create art and how scientists are able to observe more from a more artsy display of human brains as the technology evolves. This is an artwork created by Greg Dunn. It illustrates how numerous neurons are connected and linked to each other from a micro perspective. I believe that all the colors show that each neuron is independent and has its own information system. here is another artwork by Greg Dunn. This is my favorite piece since it illustrates neuron system which is very modern and scientific by a very traditional type of art style. I like how he perceives neurons as roots with many branches. Last weekend, my friend and I decided to visit Jason Rhoades Installations which is located in the Art District in downtown LA. This exhibition was actually recommended by one of my other friends commenting that “it was a cool place to take some pictures”. After visiting the installations myself, I found it way more than just a cool place to take photos. Jason Rhoades really had the ability to impress people by his extraordinary ideas and works. An overview of the exhibition! Rhoades was an alumnus graduating from UCLA in 1993. The exhibition this time at Hauser & Wirth was composed of six parts. Each part is an independent installation with a certain theme expanding from 1994 to 2006, but as he believed that his separate works can be considered components of one single boundless piece realized over time. I have never thought of connecting BioTech with art before since obviously they are two completely different fields. But after watching this week’s videos, I realized that there are actually a lot of examples of the integration of BioTech and art which I have heard of or seen. The professor mentioned a great number of specific cases where artists entered the labs and collaborated with scientists to perform their unique ideas of combining Biotech and art. For example in 2000, the famous glowing rabbit was created in France by transferring green fluorine protein (GFP) gene into the cells of a rabbit.  GFP Bunny by Eduardo Kac Apparently, this glowing creature is not something that could be observed in the nature. Thus, this caused a lot of people’s concerns about outlaws biology experiments and some even compared it with committing a crime.
